About me

I’m a ($year-1975) year old Birmingham based IT Director, living and working in Birmingham city centre in the utilities, telecommunications and student services industries.

My life revolves around my work, my close friends, my technical projects, being a Mac and LAMP geek and an online presence, through Facebook, Twitter and this journal site. I have a keen interest in politics and business and I’ll also admit to being something of a railway geek, but I won’t talk too much about that. I also go to the gym five or six times a week, which seems to be having the desired effects.

I use to be a coder but my team brainy software engineers, who are all much cleverer than me, forced me to stop because I kept breaking all my own rules. I still occasionally undertake personal programming projects outside of work but during the day I’m now too busy with Word documents and spreadsheets and meetings and things.

If you want me to work on your project in my spare time here’s the deal: I work on a time and materials basis only. I don’t do fixed-price jobs, you pay by the hour for however many hours it takes. Hours are bought in blocks of eight and are paid in advance and when the paid hours run out I stop work until more are bought. These are not favourable terms compared to other freelancers, but my spare time is valuable to me so they are what they are in order to ensure that any spare time sacrificed is worth my while.
